Report: Newcastle made a late move to try and hijack Tottenham signing

Football Insider have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur fought off competition from Newcastle United to sign Croatian wonderkid, Luka Vuskovic.

Spurs announced on Monday that they had reached an agreement with Hajduk Split over the transfer of the 16-year-old, who will arrive at the North London club in 2025.

The Lilywhites revealed that the young centre-back had put pen to paper on a contract in N17 that runs until 2030.

Fabrizio Romano revealed on the Here We Go podcast last week that Vuskovic was on the radar of several top European clubs, including the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City, both of whom had been trying to sign him for several months.

However, Romano explains that the teenager had his heart set on a move to Tottenham as soon as the club presented their project to him.

Newcastle were also keen on Luka Vuskovic

If Football Insider’s latest update is to be believed, Spurs also beat out Newcastle to land Vuskovic.

The report explains that the Magpies made a late move for the youngster and made contact with the player’s entourage over a potential deal.

However, the St James Park hierarchy were allegedly informed that Vuskovic had already made the decision to sign for Tottenham.

The outlet adds that the deal to bring the centre-back to Spurs is thought to be worth around £8.7m.

Based on the number of top European sides who have been credited with an interest in Vuskovic, it is clear that his signing is a major coup for Tottenham.

While the 16-year-old is still raw, Spurs will be hoping that he is much closer to a finished product when he arrives at the club in 2025.
