The Telegraph have revealed that Newcastle United have now enquired about Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar.
Solanke has come off age at Bournemouth this season and is now undoubtedly playing the best football of his career, with the centre-forward currently tied in third place with Tottenham captain Son Heung-min in the race for the Premier League Golden Boot.
It was reported by The Sun a couple of weeks ago that the 26-year-old’s displays at the Vitality Stadium this season had stoked Spurs’ interest.
The report suggested that the Lilywhites believe that the Cherries star is capable of shining at a higher level and were plotting a move for the centre-forward next summer.
Newcastle make an approach for Dominic Solanke
However, the Magpies are now trying to scupper Tottenham’s plans by launching a move for Solanke during the current transfer window.
The Telegraph say that Eddie Howe is keen on adding a number nine to his squad this month and has set his sights on the Bournemouth star.
Thankfully for Spurs, it is revealed that the South Coast club are keen to hang on to their star striker and have told Newcastle that he is not for sale at the moment.
Howe has since denied that Newcastle have made any move for Solanke, stating (Fabrizio Romano): “We didn’t make a move for Solanke, we can’t sign him. I love Solanke, I signed him for Bournemouth and rate him very highly. But we have not made an inquiry for him and we don’t have the ability to sign a player of that level.”

It looks like the likes of Solanke, Ivan Toney and Santiago Gimenez are all likely to stay put at their respective clubs this month and are eyeing a switch next summer. That suits Tottenham perfectly, with the Lilywhites only likely to make a move for a centre-forward in the next transfer window.
