Report: Newcastle now ‘close’ to beating Spurs to Premier League target

In what comes as a huge blow for Tottenham in their rumoured pursuit of Tosin Adarabioyo, The Northern Echo have now revealed that Newcastle United are now ‘close’ to tying up a deal to sign the Fulham star.

Adarabioyo’s contract at Fulham runs out in June and it was widely reported last week that the centre-back had turned down the Cottagers’ proposals and had informed them of his desire to leave as a free agent (Fabrizio Romano).

The Englishman has continued to be heavily linked with a move to Spurs, with Football Insider claiming just a couple of days ago that the Lilywhites remain in regular contact with the player’s camp over a summer move.

Newcastle lead the race for Tosin Adarabioyo

However, The Northern Echo have now said that it is Newcastle who currently lead the race for Adarabioyo, with the Magpies now thought to be closing in on the centre-back.

The report says that while the Fulham star’s representatives have held talks with Spurs, Man Utd and West Ham, Newcastle now look ‘increasingly likely to beat off competition’ from those clubs for his signature.

The publication adds that Eddie Howe’s men have been tracking Adarabioyo for a long time and have now offered a long-term deal at St James’ Park worth more than £100,000 per week to the player.

While Tottenham would be able to offer Adarabioyo a higher pay package than Newcastle, the centre-back might feel that he has a much better chance of being a regular starter in the North East. Postecoglou would not be able to offer the 26-year-old any assurances of game time.
