Report: Newcastle now leading race for starlet linked with Spurs and Arsenal

According to French publication But Football, Newcastle United are continuing to show an interest in Reims striker Hugo Ekitike, who is also rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar.

After making his senior debut for Reims last season, Ekitike has had a breakthrough 2021/22 campaign, having found the back of the net 10 times so far in all competitions (Transfermarkt).

Gazzetta dello Sport (28/03/22 via Sport Witness) revealed last month that Antonio Conte’s men were facing competition from Arsenal, West Ham and Newcastle for the youngster.

But Football have now revealed that the Magpies are leading the race to snap up Ekitike this summer. It is explained that Newcastle view the teenager as a ‘top priority’ after failing to sign him in January, with Reims said to be aware of the interest from Eddie Howe’s side.

The report claims that Borussia Dortmund are also keen on snapping up Ekitike but Newcastle are ‘optimistic’ about winning the race for the centre-forward, who is thought to be valued at around €30m (£24.8m).

Spurs Web Opinion

Spurs are not likely to get involved in a bidding war with Newcastle for Ekitike. While the Reims star is a promising talent, given the way Fabio Paratici operates, the 19-year-old is likely one of a long list of centre-forwards on the Spurs managing director’s wish list.
