Report: Newcastle offer midfielder £100k-a-week wage – prefers London move

Newcastle United have offered to cover Jesse Lingard’s £100,000-a-week wages as part of a potential move to sign the Tottenham target on loan, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Sky Sports reports the Magpies have made an approach to sign Lingard, who has made it known to Manchester United that he does not intend on signing a new contract.

A deal would signify one of United’s last chances to receive a fee for the 29-year-old, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the season.

Tottenham have been credited with an interest in luring Lingard away from United, but are only looking to secure a free transfer in the summer (ESPN).

However, the Manchester Evening News now claims Newcastle are planning to move ahead of the pack to secure a loan move for the England international this month.

The report states Eddie Howe’s side are happy with shelling out Lingard’s full £100,000 per week wage packet on the rest of his United contract.

It is also added that Lingard has not committed to making the move as of yet and still favours a return to London, after he enjoyed a successful second half of last season on loan at West Ham United.

Regarding Lingard, it seems Spurs want to secure a move on a free rather than paying a loan or transfer fee this month. He would be a good addition to the side, though, but then there comes the question if United would sell to a direct rival for the top four.
