Report: Newcastle planning further offer for Spurs-linked central defender

According to The Times, Newcastle United are readying an offer for rumoured Tottenham target Sven Botman when the transfer window reopens in the summer.

The Telegraph revealed last month that signing a left-sided centre-back is a priority for Spurs in the summer and Botman is one of the names who ranks high on the North London club’s wishlist.

The Daily Star subsequently backed up that claim, stating that Antonio Conte had personally asked the North London club’s hierarchy to snap up the centre-back.

However, 90min claimed earlier this month that AC Milan were confident of winning the race for the Dutch international.

However, if The Times’ latest update is to be believed, Newcastle have not given up their hopes of landing Botman despite seeing an offer for the centre-back turned down by Lille in January.

The report claims that the Magpies offered £27m for the 22-year-old in January and are ready to make a similar offer when the transfer window reopens in the summer.

Newcastle co-owner claimed last month that Botman is still keen to join the club in the summer despite a deal failing to be agreed in the winter (The Athletic).

Spurs Web Opinion

Sven Botman certainly ticks a lot of boxes for the left centre-back role at Spurs. The Netherlands international is still very young and would likely not prove too expensive. I would expect the 22-year-old to be near the top of Paratici’s wishlist this summer.
