Report: Newcastle ready to submit offer for right-back who Spurs reportedly admire

Foot Mercato have revealed that Tottenham are one of the clubs who are fans of Lyon right-back Malo Gusto but Newcastle United are now expected to push ahead with an offer for the youngster.

Gusto has emerged as one of the best young talents in Ligue 1 over the last 18 months and the 19-year-old was first mooted as a target for Spurs last month when Alasdair Gold named him as one of the right wing-back targets on the North London club’s radar (Football.London).

The journalist explained that although the teenager ‘ticks the boxes of Tottenham’s transfer profile’, there are some doubts over his ‘attacking output’.

The Lyon starlet, who has featured as a right-back, a wing-back and a centre-back for the French club, is now thought to be attracting interest from a whole host of clubs across Europe.

Foot Mercato state that Spurs, Chelsea and Juventus have ‘fallen under the spell’ of Gusto while Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Barcelona have also expressed interest in the teenager.

However, the report suggests that it is Newcastle who are particularly keen on landing the France Under-21 international, with the Magpies now said to be ready to make a ‘very big offer’ for the player.

It is said that Lyon are hoping to get ‘at least €30m’ (£26.6m) for Gusto this transfer window.

Spurs Web Opinion

Gusto is an exciting young talent and looks to have a big future but I am not sure he is a particularly good fit for Conte’s system unless the Italian perhaps plans on converting him into a right-sided centre-back. The 19-year-old’s best position seems to be as a conventional right-back in a back four.
