Report: Newcastle send scouts to watch Postecoglou’s top Spurs target

Chronicle Live have claimed that Newcastle United are set to enter the race to sign rumoured Tottenham Conor Gallagher, having scouted the Chelsea star over recent weeks.

Gallagher has been heavily linked with a move across London to Spurs since last summer and the speculation linking the midfielder with a switch to the Lilywhites continues to intensify as we near the summer transfer window.

It was revealed by Fabrizio Romano a couple of days ago that Ange Postecoglou had identified the 24-year-old as a top target as soon as he walked through the door last summer and that Tottenham are waiting to hear Chelsea’s stance on the player ahead of the transfer window (GiveMeSport).

It has also been widely reported over recent weeks that the West London club are ready to cash in on their academy graduate to ensure they do not fall foul of the PSR rules (The Times).

According to Chronicle Live, Spurs could face competition from Newcastle, who are watching Gallagher closely ahead of the summer.

The report says that Magpies’ scouts have been spotted attending the Blues’ matches over recent weeks as they continue to run the rule over the England international.

The publication adds that Eddie Howe’s men are now beginning to finalise their summer transfer shortlist and Gallagher’s name could be on it, particularly given Chelsea’s need to raise funds.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham would be able to outbid Newcastle and offer Gallagher better wages while the opportunity to remain in London will also be tempting for the midfielder. However, the Blues might prefer to sell the player to Newcastle or West Ham over Spurs in order to avoid a backlash from their supporters.
