Report: Newcastle United agree £30m fee to sign alleged Tottenham target

The Northern Echo claim that Newcastle have agreed a fee to sign Lille defender Sven Botman, who is also said to be on Tottenham’s radar this summer.

Botman, 22, produced another solid campaign for Lille despite their Ligue 1 title defence culminating in a 10th-place finish.

The Dutchman has recently been liked with a move away from the French club with TuttoMercatoWeb claiming all of Spurs, Manchester United and Newcastle are in pursuit of a transfer.

But it is the Magpies who appear to have moved to the front of the queue for Botman according to The Northern Echo, who claim Eddie Howe’s side have struck a £30 million transfer deal.

It is explained that Newcastle are now negotiating the structure of the deal and are proposing to pay £15 million up front, while spreading the remainder of the fee across Botman’s contract to stay within the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.

However, while it is noted there is optimism that an agreement will be reached, the report adds that interest from AC Milan could complicate talks.

Spurs Web Opinion

Newcastle are going to be in for a busy summer and will look to use their new wealth to good effect, and they seem to be trying to achieve that with Botman.

Spurs are in need of a central defender and have been tentatively linked with Botman throughout the last couple of transfer windows, but they will need to get involved quickly if they want to sign him in particular.
