Report: Newcastle’s January pursuit of Spurs midfielder in ‘severe doubt’

Newcastle United’s pursuit of Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli is said to be in ‘severe doubt’, with clubs unwilling to do business with the Magpies following their controversial Saudi-led takeover, according to Eurosport.

Alli, 25, allegedly emerged as a primary target for the Tyneside outfit amidst their recent cash injection, with the club reportedly planning to spend upwards of £50 million in the January transfer window.

However, any business to do with the Spurs man in the winter won’t come easy for Newcastle, with Eurosport claiming that there is a ‘generally feeling of ill-will’ from a host of Premier League sides regarding their fresh takeover deal.

The report claims sides in the top flight that deal with Eddie Howe’s new club are worried about ‘inflicting damage on themselves’ if they end up inadvertently helping the Magpies to stave off relegation to the Championship.

Although Spurs are not in direct competition with Newcastle for their status in the Premier League, a potential deal for Alli could reportedly come under threat, as well as their alleged interest for Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard and Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley.

Newcastle sit 19th in the division after 11 games and are currently five points from safety.

Although Newcastle now boast a lot of financial power, it may hinder them like in this case as clubs won’t be keen to do business with them as it will affect their clubs first.

Many individuals are still frustrated with their new takeover and that likely won’t go away any time soon.
