According to The Sun, Newcastle United may be plotting a move for Lille midfielder Angel Gomes, who is also wanted by Tottenham Hotspur.
Angel Gomes is having a great year
Gomes’ contract with Lille runs out next summer and a number of clubs in the Premier League, including Spurs, are thought to be monitoring the midfielder’s situation.
HITC suggested at the start of this month that the Lilywhites are willing to offer the 24-year-old a route back to England as he fits the profile of number eight that Ange Postecoglou wants to add to his squad.
The Sun have now also backed up Tottenham’s interest in Gomes, revealing that the North London club were one of many clubs who sent representatives to Wembley to watch the Lille star in action for England in their Nations League win over Finland.
Newcastle make Angel Gomes their top January target
They say that Tottenham, Newcastle, Man Utd, Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund are the sides who are watching the Englishman closely.
The publication states that the Magpies are showing the most interest in Gomes, who has now become their top target ahead of the January transfer window.
Spurs currently have the likes of Bentancur, Bissouma, Gray, Maddison, Bergvall, Sarr, Kulusevski and more to choose from in their three midfield roles.

Gomes certainly ticks plenty of boxes for Tottenham but any move for the Lille star in January might depend on how Lucas Bergvall develops over the next few months.
