Report: Nicolo Zaniolo has asked to leave Roma amid interest from Spurs

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, AS Roma star Nicolo Zaniolo has demanded to be sold immediately amid reported interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

Zaniolo has long been mooted with a move to Tottenham, and was reportedly close to joining the club in the summer. That deal fell through when Spurs attempted to negotiate an exchange deal for one of their own players (Wettfreunde).

Now, with the January transfer window open, rumours are circulating once again linking the Italian with a switch to North London. Alfredo Pedulla claimed last week Spurs are still leading the race for Zaniolo and suggested the player could move this month.

Earlier this week, Voce Giallorossa reported that Premier League clubs West Ham United and Newcastle United had both joined the race to sign Zaniolo. The report adds an offer of around €20-25 million would be enough to secure the signature of the 23-year-old.

Now, it seems the player himself is very keen to leave Roma as soon as possible, and has plans to depart the club before the end of January.

Apparently, Zaniolo “wants to be sold immediately”, and it is thought he could “say goodbye to everyone soon”. The thinking is, the player may well say his farewells “before the end of January.”

On the flipside, Roma are not against selling the player either, particularly bearing in mind he has not been “performing as expected” of late for the Serie A side.

While no offer is believed to have been made yet, “there have been expressions of interest,” though it’s unclear what club that interest comes from.

This comes as SportMediaSet have also reported that Nicolo Zaniolo has said yes to the prospect of joining Tottenham and will not play against Spezia this weekend. Spurs and Roma are in talks and remain apart in their valuations and format of the deal, but discussions will continue.

I’m really not sold on the idea of signing Zaniolo. He’s a young and talented player, but he struggles with injury and is not in the best of form right now. For the price we would be paying, I’m sure we could find better options.
