Report: No signs of Spurs being ready to meet club’s valuation of midfielder

According to the latest reports from Portugal, Sporting Lisbon will offer rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Joao Palhinha a new contract if he stays at the club.

Spurs are reportedly in the market for a central midfielder due to the uncertainty surrounding Tanguy Ndombele’s future at the club.

Palhinha is thought to be one of the options on Spurs’ radar, with the North Londoners allegedly having a loan offer for the midfielder turned down by Sporting.

It was reported last week that Tottenham could return with an offer of €20m (£17m) plus another €5m (£4.2m) in performance-related bonuses for the 26-year-old.

However, Sport Witness have now relayed the latest to be reported about Palhinha’s future by various Portuguese outlets, who are now suggesting the midfielder could stay.

A Bola claim Tottenham are ‘attentive’ to Palhinha’s situation but remark that it would take a bid of around €30m to €40m (£25.5m to £34m) to prise the midfielder away from Lisbon.

The report adds that Sporting are ready to hand the Portuguese international a pay rise if he stays at the club.

Correio da Manha and Record also put the midfielder’s price at around €40m (£34m) and add there are no signs that Spurs are close to offering that amount yet.

Spurs Web Opinion

If reports over recent days are to be believed, it seems like Nahitan Nandez is now Tottenham’s number one midfield target. The Cagliari man would certainly be less expensive than Palhinha and given that a central midfielder is not a priority for us, it is not surprising that Paratici appears to be going for the cheaper option.
