Report: North London rivals Arsenal sign former Tottenham Hotspur defender

The Athletic have reported that Arsenal have now signed Jonathan Dinzeyi after the youngster was released from Tottenham Hotspur’s academy.

It is said that the Gunners are looking to improve their current youth set-up under the guidance of former defensive star, Per Mertesacker.

Many Spurs fans may not recognise the name Dinzeyi, but the 20-year-old did make one appearance for the club back in 2018.

The defender was fielded as part of a young side in pre-season, although the team was battered 4-1 by Girona during his one run out.

In February 2020, Tottenham allowed Dinzeyi to go out on trial with Queens Park Rangers, before he returned to the club to see out his contract.

Dinzeyi was released at the end of the 2019/20 season and is now said to have signed for the Lilywhites’ North London rivals, where he will slot straight into the current Arsenal development squad.

It is fair to say that few cross the North London divide, especially without joining any other clubs in between, but such an act is usually forgiven for a youth player.
