Report: Nottingham Forest join race for Spurs-linked forward ahead of January

Gianluca di Marzio have revealed that Nottingham Forest are one of several clubs to have joined the race for Bari forward Walid Cheddira, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar.

Bari snapped up Cheddira permanently in the summer on the back of his loan spell at the club last season and the 24-year-old has been a cut above every other player in Serie B so far this campaign.

The versatile forward, who can also play out wide or as a number ten, has nine goals and five assists to his name in 12 games in the Italian second tier and another five goals in three matches in the Italy Cup (Transfermarkt).

Although Cheddira is part of Morocco’s squad for the World Cup, he has been an unused substitute in all three group matches so far.

Tottenham’s interest in the Bari star first came to light back in October when Serie B News reported that the forward was on the wishlist of Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici.

Di Marzio has now revealed that Forest are also eyeing a January move for Cheddira, who is said to be valued at around €6m-€7m (£5.1m-£6m).

The journalist further adds that Lazio and Naples also have their eye on the striker but Bari do not want to let him leave until the end of the season.

The fact that Cheddira is not starting for Morocco should not be taken as evidence of the 24-year-old not being of the requisite quality. Morocco boss Walid Regragui clearly does not want to tinker with what is working, which is why he has opted to stick with an experienced front three of Hakim Ziyech, Sofiane Boufal and Youssef En-Nesyri.
