Report: Nuno Espirito Santo close to management return following Tottenham exit

Eight months after being sacked by Tottenham, Nuno Espirito Santo is set to take over at Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad FC, Foot Mercato have revealed.

Tottenham’s prolonged managerial search last summer eventually concluded with Nuno’s appointment, just months after he had parted ways with Wolves.

However, the Portuguese coach lasted just four months in the North London hot seat before being replaced by Antonio Conte at the start of November.

Nuno is still out of work since leaving Spurs, with previous reports claiming the 48-year-old was waiting for a Premier League job to open up as he is keen to remain in England (Le10 Sport).

The Daily Mail reported back in April that the former Tottenham boss was in contention to take over at Burnley after the sacking of Sean Dyche. However, the Clarets eventually decided to appoint former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany.

According to Foot Mercato, Nuno now looks set to start a new adventure in Saudi Arabia, almost exactly a year since he took over at Tottenham.

The report claims that the former Wolves and Spurs boss is now close to signing a contract with Al-Ittihad FC.

Spurs Web Opinion

While Spurs absolutely made the right decision to sack Nuno when they did, I do feel quite sorry for the 48-year-old as his time at Tottenham seems to have destroyed his career.

He took over at an extremely tumultuous time, given the speculation over Kane’s future and the big changes behind the scenes, and had to be the fall guy ahead of Conte’s revolution.

Had he not taken the Spurs job, his stock would have remained high on the back of his time at Wolves, and he would have got several offers from Premier League clubs by now.
