Report: Nuno urges Tottenham to sign 26-year-old centre-back

According to a report from Fichajes, Nuno Espirito Santo is keen to add Granada defender Domingos Duarte to the Tottenham squad before the transfer window shuts.

Spurs have already signed one high-profile centre-back in Cristian Romero this summer.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold revealed a few days ago that while Tottenham would like to add another centre-back to their squad before the end of the month, they will first need to move at least one of their current defenders on.

Fichajes have now claimed that Nuno has made it clear to Daniel Levy that he is not entirely happy with his squad and needs reinforcements.

One area in which the Spurs boss is allegedly keen to strengthen is central defence as it is thought he wants to have more flexibility so that he could switch to a back three if needed.

The report alleges that Nuno has proposed Duarte as an option to the club’s hierarchy.

The 26-year-old has enjoyed two solid campaigns since moving to Granada in 2019 and it is asserted that Nuno believes the defender has the talent to shine in the Premier League.

Fichajes also add that Duarte is unlikely to prove too expensive an acquisition for Tottenham since he just has two years left on his contract with the La Liga club.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given that so many clubs around Europe are struggling financially, it seems unlikely that we are going to get a suitable offer for the likes of Davinson Sanchez.

So, I would not be surprised if Spurs head into the season with Romero, Dier, Sanchez and Rodon as our four main centre-backs (with Tanganga and Davies also being options in case Nuno wants to employ a back three).
