Colombia’s edition of AS have revealed that Nuno Espirito Santo is waiting to assess Davinson Sanchez’s fitness after the Tottenham man returns to Hotspur Way.
Tottenham reportedly tried to get their South American stars, Sanchez, Giovani Lo Celso, Cristian Romero and Emerson Royal, back early from the international break so they could be available for the Newcastle clash.
Despite Spurs failing to convince Argentina, Brazil and Colombia to release their players early, the latest reports suggest that the North London club are confident their players will be eligible to make the trip to St James’ Park.
AS now have an update on Sanchez, who has not started either of Colombia’s World Cup qualifiers during this international break.
The report reiterates that Spurs failed to persuade Colombia to allow the 25-year-old to return to the UK before this evening’s clash against Ecuador.
It is explained that Sanchez will fly back to London after the match and that Nuno is awaiting to see if the centre-back is fit enough to play any part against the Magpies.
Spurs Web Opinion
I suspect that if Sanchez does not start tonight for Colombia and if Romero starts for Argentina, Nuno might decide to partner the Colombian alongside Eric Dier against Newcastle.
As good as Romero and Emerson were against Villa, it would be a tough ask to play in the early hours of Friday morning (UK time) and then travel to London and play against the Magpies on Sunday.
