Report offers update on future of Spurs target and Ajax star Andre Onana

According to a report in The Daily Mail, rumoured Spurs target Andre Onana is now prepared to stay at Ajax for one more season.

Tottenham have been linked with multiple goalkeepers so far this summer as reports indicate that Jose Mourinho is on the lookout for Hugo Lloris’ longterm replacement.

Lille’s Mike Maignan has been linked with a move to North London (Le10Sport), while Trabzonspor’s Ugurcan Cakir (Il Tempo) and Manchester United’s Dean Henderson (Daily Mail) have also been touted as possible targets.

Onana is another name who is said to be on the Lilywhites’ radar this summer (The Sun). It was previously reported that Tottenham and Chelsea were going head to head for the Cameroon international’s signature (The Express).

The 24-year-old admitted back in April that he wanted to leave the Johan Cruijff Arena in search of a new challenge (AD).

However, The Daily Mail now reports that Onana, who has two years left to run on his contract with Ajax, is happy to stay for one more season.

It is said that the shot-stopper is prepared to wait until next summer to sort out his future due to the uncertainty of the post-Coronavirus transfer market.

Spurs Web Opinion

While it is clear that the club are already on the lookout for Lloris’ long term replacement, I believe that Spurs would likely have to reconsider their plans of moving for a potential number one this summer due to the financial impact of the pandemic. I expect us to prioritise additions in areas like defensive midfield, centre back, and striker.
