Pressure has mounted on Jose Mourinho over the last few weeks owing to the team’s poor run of form but reports indicate that Mourinho’s job is still safe, at least until the end of the season, and that the Tottenham boss still has Daniel Levy’s backing.
However, The Athletic claimed this week that Nagelsmann has a lot of admirers at Tottenham owing to the excellent jobs he has done at Hoffenheim and Leipzig.
SportBild have now revealed that there is no exit clause in the 33-year-old’s current contract at Leipzig, which runs until 2023, and that the Bundesliga club are looking to hang to him until the end of his deal.
However, the report suggests that Nagelsmann could be tempted to leave the Red Bull Arena at the end of the season if he is offered a big job, with the Spurs hot seat being mentioned as one of those that could interest him.
Spurs Web Opinion
Nagelsmann is a top manager but it is ridiculous to even be thinking about sacking Mourinho at this point. Unless we finish a long way off the top four spots this season and fail to win silverware, I do not think the 58-year-old’s job is likely to be under threat. He could quite easily still turn things around over the next few months.
