Report: On loan Spurs player ‘seems to have convinced’ club to buy him

According to a report in Il Mattino (13/12/22 as relayed by Forza Azzurri and Sport Witness), Tanguy Ndombele may have done enough to convince Napoli to buy him from Tottenham next summer.

Although Ndombele has had a few promising moments since his move to Naples, he has hardly set the world alight for the Serie A table toppers so far.

The Serie A club reportedly have the option to make the deal permeants for £30m, with Football Insider reporting last month that Spurs are hopeful of that clause being triggered.

Il Mattino have now suggested that despite his lacklustre start to the campaign, the Frenchman has impressed Luciano Spalletti. It is asserted that the 26-year-old ‘seems to have convinced’ the Serie A side to hang on to him beyond the end of this season.

The report adds that Napoli considered signing Ndombele permanently back in the summer rather than loaning him as they did not merely want to help develop him for another club.

Il Mattino add that the Serie A club could even ask Tottenham for a ‘discount’ for the former Lyon man next summer.

The incentives with this loan move are all wrong from a Spurs perspective, as Napoli are incentivised not to play Ndombele regularly so that the Frenchman does not attract more interest next summer, which improves the Serie A club’s chances of getting a discount for the midfielder.
