Report: On-loan Tottenham man could return to the club in January

According to a report in La Repubblica (15/10/22 as relayed by Sport Witness), Harry Winks’ loan spell at Sampdoria could be cut-short as the midfielder continues to struggle with an ankle injury.

Club Doria 46 revealed over the weekend that Winks’ left ankle continues to ‘haunt him’ and this makes it difficult to predict when he will regain full fitness.

The report added that the Tottenham man was seen as Sampdoria’s marquee summer signing and that the club have been disappointed by the fact that he has not trained either with recently-sacked coach Marco Giampaolo, or his replacement Dejan Stankovic.

La Repubblica have now asserted that Winks’ ankle problem ‘continues to plague him’ and all the effort Sampdoria have put into helping him recover has gone to waste.

It is explained that Winks does not want to undergo a third operation, having already gone under the knife in May 2018 and also had an operation on his groin in March 2019.

The 26-year-old is said to be currently underdoing stem cell treatment after ‘living with the pain’ of his injuries over the last few years.

The report asserts that England international does not show signs of improvement soon, a premature farewell to Sampdoria is looking ‘increasingly concrete’.

This sounds extremely alarming for Winks, who we know has been playing with an ankle problem since 2018 (Football.London).

It looks like the issue has finally caught up with him. Another operation could put him out of action for months, which almost certainly will mean the end of his loan spell at Sampdoria.
