Report: One door closes on potential route out of Spurs for Serge Aurier

Serge Aurier’s hopes of a return to Paris Saint-Germain appear to have been dashed, according to a report in the Gazzetta dello Sport.

Aurier has not been shy in expressing his interest in returning to his former club and insisted that he will not sign a new contract in North London while also claiming he has reached an agreement to leave the club.

The 28-year-old, who joined Spurs from PSG in 2017, admitted a return to the Ligue 1 giants and a potential reunion with former Spurs head coach Mauricio Pochettino would be his preferred move this summer (L’Equipe).

However, PSG officials are said to have rejected the idea of the Ivory Coast international returning to the club, having instead set their sights on landing Inter Milan right-back Achraf Hakim and have already tabled one offer for the Moroccan.

Tottenham need to prioritise the signing of a new right-back, regardless of Aurier’s contract situation. The right side of our defence is a massive weak area in our squad given the Ivorian’s unreliability along with the struggles which Matt Doherty experienced in his first season.

Juan Foyth’s departure means there is one less player to challenge for the shirt, while Japhet Tanganga will be hoping for an injury-free campaign.
