Report: One potential option for Ndombele’s Spurs exit may have closed

Barcelona have reportedly cooled their interest in signing Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, amidst widespread speculation over the midfielder’s future.

Reports have indicated that all is still not well between Jose Mourinho and Ndombele (The Athletic) and the fact that the midfielder has not started a game since the restart would suggest that there might be some truth to that claim.

L’Equipe earlier reported that Spurs are ready to cut their losses on their record signing and have already started negotiating his sale with Barcelona.

However, Sky Sports now claim that the Spanish giants have cooled their interest in the Tottenham midfielder following their acquisition of Miralem Pjanic from Juventus.

It is revealed that the Catalan club are reasonably happy with their central midfield options at the moment and singing another midfielder is not a priority for them anymore.

Barca are said to instead be looking at reinforcements in other areas of the pitch, with a lot of their attention focussed towards acquiring Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez.

Given that Jose has confirmed Ndombele is injured and we will not be seeing him again nthis season, there is a very real chance that we have seen the last of him in a Spurs shirt. Despite Jose clearly focussing a lot of time on the former Lyon man to get him fit during the lockdown, he has barely featured since the restart.

It does not look like there is any way back for Ndombele to the first-team picture. It does not appear as if Jose trusts him, given the work his system requires from the midfielders off the ball. However, the 23-year-old might end up staying as it is very hard to find a buyer who is willing to pay anywhere near what Spurs paid for him last summer given the current financial climate.
