Report: One Spurs star has not travelled to NS Mura – Conte didn’t say he was injured

Steven Bergwijn has not travelled to Slovenia with the Tottenham squad for the Europa Conference League fixture against NS Mura, according to Football.London

The report claims the Dutch winger did not train with Antonio Conte’s side on Wednesday morning and has subsequently not made the trip for Thursday evening’s encounter.

The setback means Bergwijn will have to wait a little longer for his first start under Conte, having been an unused substitute in all three of the Italian’s games in charge so far.

The former Inter Milan boss warned of rotation to his team as he gears up for the busy fixture rush over the festive period, which would have put the 24-year-old in line for important minutes in the side.

As such, he will join a host of names missing the European clash in Slovenia including Cristian Romero, Giovani Lo Celso and Dane Scarlett who have all picked up various injuries.

Bergwijn’s next possible opportunity to make a push for a starting spot could come on Sunday when Spurs travel to Burnley, before games against Brentford and Norwich next week.

This isn’t exactly ideal for Bergwijn or Conte, considering the winger needs minutes under his belt after his recovery from injury.

The Italian could still rotate his squad adequately with the likes of Bryan Gil or Ryan Sessegnon but, hopefully, Bergwijn will be available for the Burnley match this weekend.
