Report: One Spurs star is already on his way toward a yellow card suspension

Rodrigo Bentancur is already walking a suspension tightrope so early into the season, and the midfielder will need to be careful over the next few weeks.

Bentancur has a 100 per cent record… in yellow cards

Bentancur has played just two of Tottenham’s three Premier League games so far, having sat out the game against Everton after coming off with a concussion against Leicester City.

Despite this, the Uruguayan has already been cautioned twice for some rash challenges, with the midfielder now walking a tightrope as a result.

Players who pick up five yellow cards in the first half of the season will be suspended for one game.

Bentancur needs to be careful

With Bentancur already almost halfway to that mark, he will have to be cautious of picking up further bookings over the coming weeks, with Tottenham having some big games against the likes of Arsenal, Brentford, Manchester United and Brighton.

Given the 27-year-old’s tendency to always go for 50-50s in a full-blooded manner, Ange Postecoglou might soon have to contend with being without his key man for a game.

If he keeps up this 100 per cent yellow card record, Bentancur will be suspended before we even reach the seventh game of the campaign.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think this will be playing on Bentancur’s mind for the moment but if he picks up another yellow card against Arsenal, the midfielder would have to think twice about his tackling.

However, Postecoglou will certainly not want to curb the former Juventus man’s tough tackling instincts.
