Report outlines Steve Hitchen’s new Spurs role and Jose Mourinho’s opinion of him

Structural changes at the top of Tottenham Hotspur were announced last Tuesday, as the creation of a new three-person board, consisting of new Director of Football Operations, Tever Birch, as well as Rebecca Caplehorn and Steve Hitchen, was confirmed by the club.

The Athletic have now published a detailed report explaining what Birch will bring to Tottenham, with former Swansea chairman famed for his football know-how, connections in the industry and strong negotiations skills.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has now explained how the restructuring at the top will affect the way Tottenham go about identifying and signing transfer targets.

Gold reveals that with his appointment as the new Technical Performance Director, Hitchen will have similar wide-ranging duties associated with a classical director of football role, and will play an important role when it comes to scouting, performance and recruitment.

The report reveals that Hitchen was already working closely with Jose Mourinho in identifying potential targets, just as he did with Pochettino, and that the Spurs boss has been impressed with the 43-year-old.

With the appointment of Steve Hitchen as Technical Performance Director, it would appear that we have given up any lingering hopes of brining Luis Campos to the club. It is good to hear that Jose Mourinho seems to enjoy working with Hitchen. It also seems that Jose is on the same page as Levy and Hitchen, which did not appear to be the case at Manchester United.
