Report outlines two main reasons Tottenham want to sign Djed Spence

Tottenham are pushing to sign Djed Spence as Antonio Conte believes he can turn the Middlesbrough defender into a star, while he also adds to the club’s homegrown quota, according to Football.London.

Spurs are reportedly in advanced talks to sign the 21-year-old, who helped Nottingham Forest seal promotion to the Premier League during his loan spell last season (Sky Sports).

A deal for Spence is thought to be in the range of £20 million (The Guardian), who was rested while on international duty with the England U21 squad for their win over Kosovo on Friday.

Football.London have now detailed the reasons behind Tottenham’s interest in Spence, noting that he fits the mission in terms of adding to the homegrown quota.

The recent exit of Cameron Carter-Vickers to Celtic and the uncertain futures of Harry Winks and Joe Rodon could leave Spurs needing to boost their homegrown numbers, and Spence’s profile has been identified as an ideal one to ease this issue.

Meanwhile, Spence’s attacking and defensive displays at wing-back for Forest have also caught the attention of figures at the club, including Conte, who believes he can develop the wide-man further.

Spence made a total of 50 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring three goals and assisting a further five during his breakout campaign (Transfermarkt).

Spence is a solid profile and it is no wonder Tottenham are very keen to bring him in as he ticks plenty of boxes for them.

Being homegrown is a big tick and important factor, but he has the ability to keep getting better too so that will also be a draw for the club when completing a deal.
