Report: Paratici and Conte make signing midfielder one of ‘main objectives’ for January

Corriere di Bologna (as relayed by Sport Witness) have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are prioritising a deal for Bologna midfielder Mattias Svanberg in January.

Svanberg has established himself as a regular in Bologna’s midfield over the past two years and the 22-year-old is having another solid campaign for the Serie A club.

It was reported by inews earlier this week that the central midfielder is a January target for Spurs, with the club’s managing director of football, Fabio Paratici, having previously tried to take him to Juventus.

The report explained that Tottenham were leading the race for the youngster ahead of Manchester City, who had sent scouts to Italy to watch the player this season.

Corriere di Bologna have now revealed that Spurs have already made ‘enquires’ about Svanberg’s availability ahead of January.

The report claims that both Paratici and Antonio Conte have liked the midfielder ‘for some time’ and have made signing him one of their ‘main objectives’ next month.

However, it is suggested that Bologna have no intention of letting Svanberg leave and are trying to tie him down to a new contract.

Spurs Web Opinion

I believe Conte and Paratici will prioritise strengthening the central midfield area in January as I get the feeling that the Spurs boss does not trust the likes of Dele, Ndombele or Lo Celso to play in the two-man midfield pivot.

With just three options in Hojbjerg, Skipp and Winks to choose from for those two positions, Conte will be in trouble if there are a few injuries or suspensions in the midfield department.
