Report: Paratici could hand Spurs advantage over Everton for Juventus defender

Fabio Paratici could look to raid his former club Juventus this summer for defender Merih Demiral, according to Tuttosport.

The arrival of Tottenham’s new managing director of football is now said to have given the North Londoners the upper hand over Everton.

Tottenham are said to be prioritising a move for a central defender ahead of the new Premier League season, with the preference to secure a player who can lead the back line (Football.London).

Paratici helped to bring Demiral to the Old Lady from Sassuolo in 2019 but has never been a regular starter due to stiff competition from the likes of Giorgio Chiellini, Leonardo Bonucci and Matthijs de Ligt.

Corriere dello Sport claimed last week that Everton were in pole position to land the Turkish international.

During Paratici’s time in Turin, it is reported that the club rejected approaches from clubs including Leicester City and AC Milan (Calciomercato).

The 23-year-old suffered an injury-hit campaign last season which saw him start just ten Serie A matches (transfermarkt).

There is no doubt that a central defender has to be high on our shopping list this summer. Demiral is relatively quick and at 6ft 4″ is an imposing figure, especially aerially.
