Report: Paratici looking to get rid of Davinson Sanchez in bid to land defender in January

Tottenham Hotspur managing director of football, Fabio Paratici is looking to move Davinson Sanchez on from the club with the aim of landing Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij in the January transfer window, according to Italian news outlet CalcioMercatoWeb.

Sanchez, a former club-record signing when he arrived in north London from Ajax in 2017 for a reported £42million (BBC) has failed to consistently impress during his time in England.

The Colombian international is not part of Antonio Conte’s first-choice central defensive options and typically only gets game time when the likes of Cristian Romero are absent on the right side of the back trio.

CMW claim that should De Vrij fail to reach an agreement over a new deal at the San Siro, Spurs could look to make their move to bring him to the Premier League instead.

The Duch international is out of contract at the end of this season (transfermarkt) and the report suggests that Spurs could table an offer in January in the region of €4-5 million (£3.5m-£4.39 million and include Sanchez as part of the deal.

Sanchez could head to Inter on loan until the end of the season to help fill the void left by De Vrij and also have the option to make the 26-year-old’s stint permanent for €15-18 million (£13.16-£15.79 million).

De Vrij would be a significant upgrade on Sanchez, who has proved time and time again with his lack of positioning and ability on the ball that he is a liability to the Tottenham backline. At 30, the Dutchman would help to provide further experience to the defence and provide genuine competition for the likes of Romero and Dier.
