Report: Paratici tried to sign former Arsenal player but he rejected Spurs talks

Gazzetta dello Sport have revealed that Fabio Paratici tried to take Wojciech Szczesny to Tottenham but the Juventus goalkeeper rejected the Italian’s advances.

Tottenham are thought to be on the lookout for Hugo Lloris’ successor, with the likes of Giorgi Mamardashvili, David Raya, Robert Sanchez and Mike Maignan reportedly on the top of the Lilywhites’ wishlist (Football.London’s Alasdair Gold).

Gazzetta have now claimed that Paratici tried to bring Szczesny to Hotspur Way, with the report asserting that the Spurs managing director of football would have ‘gladly’ signed the Pole.

However, the goalkeeper, who made 181 appearances for Arsenal, before moving to the Serie A, is said to have given a ‘sharp no’ to opening negotiations with the Lilywhites.

This is because Szczesny wants to remain Juve’s number one for as long as possible and when the time comes for him to leave Turin, the 32-year-old wants to move to Major League Soccer to finish his career in the United States.

I suspect part of Szczesny’s motivations in saying no to Tottenham (if there is truth to this story) might have been due to his Arsenal connections and his unwillingness to burn the bridges with Gunners fans.

It is certainly not a huge loss for Spurs as there are much better options out there to take over the gloves from Lloris.
