Report: Paratici was also impressed by 21-year-old while scouting Djed Spence

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Fabio Paratici was impressed by Manchester United youngster James Garner while he was scouting Djed Spence last season.

Garner had an impressive campaign on loan at Nottingham Forest last term, helping the club secure promotion to the Premier League.

The Athletic reported on Monday that Erik Ten Hag had decided the 21-year-old is surplus to requirements and that Tottenham were one of the clubs who were eyeing a move for the youngster.

The report added that the midfielder was also attracting interest from Everton, Southampton and Leeds United. The Telegraph also named Spurs as a leader in the race, alongside Forest.

This was subsequently followed up by a report by The Sun’s Alan Nixon, who claimed on Patreon that Spurs had launched an opening offer for the Man Utd starlet.

Gold has now revealed that it is Paratici who is driving Tottenham’s interest in Garner, with the Spurs managing director of football said to have been alerted to the midfielder when he was watching Spence at the City ground last season.

However, the journalist added that Antonio Conte’s men are yet to decide whether or not to make a move for the England Under-21 international, given the options the club already have in the midfield department.

Even if Spurs held a genuine interest in Garner and made a concrete offer for the youngster, I doubt the 21-year-old would be interested in making a move to North London. The midfielder has got a taste of playing regular senior football over the last two seasons and would not want to warm the bench at Spurs.
