Tottenham Hotspur will be hoping that they do not need to invest in a new central defender this summer, as Toby Alderweireld’s future hangs in the balance.

However, with the Belgian entering the final year of his extended contract, and a clause allowing him to leave this summer for just £25m, Spurs may have to plan for life without Toby (Guardian).

One player who the club have been heavily linked with in this position throughout the season is Sampdoria’s Joachim Andersen (Daily Mail).

Tottenham may have just been delivered a boost in their pursuit of the defender, as reports suggest both Inter Milan and Juventus have cooled their interest in him (Tuttomercatoweb).

The Daily Mail reported in April that Sampdoria would ask for £50m for the centre-back, what would be a Spurs transfer record, but with reduced demand for Andersen, could this price drop?

Spurs Web Opinion:

In my opinion, I do not believe that Toby will leave this summer. I think the Belgian will stay for another season, until his contract runs down. He will then decide whether to transfer on a free, or sign another extension with Spurs. I would say that a new stadium and a Champions League winners medal would heavily influence his decision, but we shall see where Spurs are come June 2.
