Report: Pedro Porro is the top target but Spurs want three January signings

According to the Evening Standard, Sporting Lisbon star Pedro Porro is the top transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window, but the club is looking to make three new signings this month.

It’s common knowledge by now that Antonio Conte is keen on adding a new right wing-back to his squad (90 Min), with the Italian apparently not happy with his current options.

Spurs have been tracking Sporting defender Porro for some time now, and Fabrizio Romano recently reported the two clubs were in discussion over a possible move, with a £40m release clause proving to be a stumbling block for the North London club thus far.

The 23-year-old is in fine form this season for Sporting, with two goals and ten assists to his name so far this term (Transfermarkt). Porro caught Tottenham’s eye with his Champions League displays against Conte’s side last year.

It has since emerged that Barcelona and Atletico Madrid were keen to bring the Spaniard back to his native land (Record), while A Bola claim Premier League rivals Chelsea are now entering the race for the Spurs target.

Spurs will have to move fast then if they want to get their man, it seems, but according to the Standard, Porro is their number one target this month.

Apparently, though, “Sporting will not entertain negotiations” mid-season, leaving Tottenham with just one option if they want to sign him now – to pay the release clause.

The report claims Spurs will also try to sign “an extra attacking player this month,” to cover the injuries to Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison. Meanwhile, the club is also “currently working on a succession plan” for club captain and number one goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

Why we haven’t just paid the release clause and snapped up our number one target yet is beyond me. Other clubs are entering the fray now, and it will be very frustrating if they pull the trigger and get a deal done while we are pondering over spending an extra few million pounds.
