Report: PL club agree £25m fee for forward rumoured to be on Spurs radar

The Guardian have revealed that Brighton are close to landing rumoured Tottenham target Nicolas Gonzalez, after agreeing on a £25m fee with Stuttgart for the forward.

After spearheading Stuttgart’s promotion back to the Bundesliga in the 2019/20 season, Gonzalez scored 6 goals and registered 2 assists in an injury-hit season that saw him make just 15 league appearances.

The Argentine was rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar ahead of the January transfer window (David Ornstein) and the North London club had been backed to make a move for him this summer (Gianluca Di Marzio via Fabrizio Romano).

Sky Italia reported last week that Tottenham were willing to meet Stuttgart’s asking price of €25m (£21.5m) upfront with a further €4m (£3.5m) in bonuses for Gonzalez after the German club had rejected Fiorentina’s offer, which fell short of that amount.

However, it now appears as if Spurs have been beaten to the Stuttgart star’s signature by Brighton. The Guardian have claimed that the Seagulls have tracked the 23-year-old for a long time and even failed with a bid to sign him last summer.

The report does mention Tottenham’s interest but suggests that Graham Potter’s side are set to beat Fiorentina to Gonzalez as the player prefers a move to the Premier League.
