Report: PL club agree £42m fee for midfielder three days after Spurs were linked

The Athletic have revealed that Wolves have reached an agreement with Sporting Lisbon for the transfer of midfielder Matheus Nunes, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham this summer.

Tottenham were first reported to have made an enquiry about Nunes back in March O Jogo (14/02/22 via Sport Witness) and the North London club allegedly sent scouts to watch him in action towards the end of last season (A Bola – 22/04/22 via Sport Witness).

The 23-year-old, who has emerged as one of the best midfielders in Portuguese football over the last two years, has also been linked with both West Ham United and Wolves, with Record reporting over the weekend that the player had rejected advances from both clubs.

The report further added that Spurs and Manchester United were continuing to keep an eye on the Sporting star.

If The Athletic’s latest update is to be believed, Wolves have now struck an agreement worth €50m (£42.1m) plus add-ons with the Portuguese club for Nunes.

The report adds that although Brugo Lage’s side are yet to agree on personal terms with the midfielder, they are now ‘optimistic’ about getting a deal over the line.

Spurs Web Opinion

Spurs might have explored Nunes as a target earlier this summer but our interest in the Portuguese international would have likely ended the second we snapped up Yves Bissouma. An attacking midfielder is now arguably a bigger priority for Conte’s men rather than another number six.
