Report: PL club are preparing for someone like Spurs to poach their star man

Football Insider claim Brentford have identified Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy as a transfer target amidst fears that the likes of Tottenham would make a move for Ivan Toney in January.

Toney has a little over 18 months left on his contract and the report backs up what we have heard from other sources recently by stating that the Bees believe he could leave the club in January.

Football Insider name Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal as the clubs eyeing a move for the England international. They add that the Bees are already looking for a replacement and have zeroed in on Guirassy.

Should Spurs move for Ivan Toney in January?

The outlet asserts that Brentford are not the only ones interested in the prolific Stuttgart star, with Crystal Palace, Bournemouth and West Ham United also thought to be keeping tabs on the 27-year-old.

Interestingly, this update affects Spurs in more ways than one as TEAMtalk claimed earlier this month that the Stuttgart star is also on Tottenham’s radar ahead of the January transfer window.

Guirassy has scored 14 goals and provided two assists in eight matches across all competitions so far this season (Transfermarkt).

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham are much more likely to move for Guirassy than Toney in January as I cannot see Spurs shattering their transfer record to sign the Brentford star.

However, my suspicion is that the North London club will put off their pursuit of a number nine until next summer, and focus on signing a centre-back and a centre midfielder in January.
