Report: PL club likely to offer Spurs target new contract with a release clause

Amid reported interest from Tottenham Hotspur, it seems Crystal Palace are preparing to offer Eberechi Eze a huge new contract to keep him at the club – but the new deal will include a release clause.

As Ange Postecoglou continues to imprint his own identity on the Tottenham squad, and the transfer window nears its conclusion, speculation is mounting when it comes to a whole host of players coming in and out of North London.

Spurs have already recruited well, with the likes of James Maddison, Micky van de Ven, and Guglielmo Vicario impressing early on in their career at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

However, there is always room for improvement, and one name that has been linked with the Lilywhites of late is Crystal Palace star, Eberechi Eze (Express).

The problem is, Palace are reluctant to let Eze go. Fabrizio Romano claims it would take a ‘huge’ offer for them to sell, and insisted it is very unlikely the playmaker would switch clubs this summer (CaughtOffside).

Will Eberechi Eze sign a new contract at Palace?

Despite reports that Eze had turned down the offer of a new contract at Palace recently (90 Min), it appears the Eagles are going to ramp up their efforts to tie down their talented midfielder.

That’s according to the latest from The Sun, who claim Palace are ready to give Eze a “major pay hike” in order to “keep the giants of the game away.”

It is thought the new deal will be worth £5m-a-year. While this new contract should be enough to keep Eze at the club during the current transfer window, the report suggests the inclusion of a “fixed release price” in the deal could “leave the door open” for clubs such as Manchester City and Barcelona to swoop in the future.

Spurs Web Opinion

Crystal Palace did well to keep Michael Olise recently amid interest from Chelsea, and it seems they are doing the same with Eze.

It’s a smart move, which not only protects them now but offers them some reassurance that they can demand a huge bid later down the line. Sadly, this very likely puts Spurs out of the picture.
