Report: Aston Villa may be open to selling boyhood Spurs fan linked with move last year

According to The Daily Mirror, Aston Villa could be open to selling Ezri Konsa, who was previously thought to be on Tottenham’s radar.

Konsa was reportedly the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur last year but despite growing up as a Spurs fan, the centre-back decided to commit his future to Villa by penning a new contract (The Athletic).

However, the 24-year-old has struggled to replicate the same sort of consistency this season, with the Villans defence leaking a lot of goals.

Konsa, along with the rest of the Villa backline, struggled to cope with Tottenham’s dynamic forwards on Sunday as the Lilywhites put four past them.

The Mirror now claim that Steven Gerrard wants to overhaul his squad in the summer and a new centre-half is at the top of his wishlist.

The report adds that Gerrard could look to raid Liverpool for Joe Gomez and explains that the positions of Konsa and Tyrone Mings are ‘under scrutiny’.

Spurs Web Opinion

Konsa was a target for us when Mourinho was in charge but a lot has changed since then, with the arrival of Paratici and Conte.

The demands on centre-backs in Conte’s system are a lot different to Jose’s and so one would expect our targets to have changed. Besides, Konsa certainly has not pulled up any trees at Villa Park this season.
