Report: PL club trying to tie down midfielder amidst apparent Tottenham interest

According to a report in The Sunday Mirror on 6/12, page 74 (as relayed by TBR Football), Newcastle United are keen to tie down Sean Longstaff to a new deal, with Tottenham Hotspur eyeing a move for the midfielder.

Longstaff earned rave reviews when he first broke into the Magpies side a couple of years ago but his progress has stalled a bit over the last 12 months, partly due to an injury he picked up last year.

The Daily Mail reported this week that the midfielder had changed his representation, signing a 12-month deal with super-agent Pini Zahavi.

The Israeli agent reportedly once promised those close to Longstaff that he could get him a move to Tottenham if he signed with him.

The Mirror have now also backed up the claim that Tottenham hold an interest in snapping up the midfielder.

However, the report suggests that Steve Bruce’s side are aware of Spurs’ interest and have this accelerated talks over a new deal with Longstaff, whose current contract at St James’ Park has 18 months to run.
