Report: PL club want to sign striker to new contract to fend off Spurs interest

The Telegraph have reported that Leeds United want to secure striker Patrick Bamford to a new long-term deal to fend off interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

The report states the Leeds striker is ‘on the radar’ for Spurs this summer as a possible transfer target.

The 27-year-old’s current contract expires next summer, and with Bamford not yet signing a new deal with Leeds, questions about his future are only growing.

Leeds are said to want to keep their star striker and intend to secure him to a new long-term deal to ensure they do not lose him to another Premier League club.

Spurs could have a potential void to fill in the striker position with the future of Harry Kane still very much in doubt. It is unclear whether Tottenham would want Bamford to replace Kane or to play alongside him.

This was a rumour that popped off out of nowhere. Bamford impressed for Leeds last year, and so with his contract situation – it could make sense to have a sniff around.

But as a replacement for Kane, it would most likely be received as underwhelming by the Spurs fanbase.
