Report: PL club will not stand in player’s way amid Spurs links if they are relegated

TalkSPORT have revealed that if Southampton go down this season, they will allow James Ward-Prowse to leave amidst interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

Multiple reports over recent months have indicated that the central midfield area is one of the positions that Spurs plan on strengthening during the summer window ( The Athletic).

Ward-Prowse has been mooted as a target for Spurs on many occasions over the years, including during last summer’s transfer window (Daily Mail).

According to talkSPORT’s latest update, the North London club continue to have their eye on the Southampton captain amidst the Saints’ struggles to preserve their Premier League status.

The report adds that Tottenham are not alone in their interest in Ward-Prowse, with London rivals, West Ham, also monitoring his situation.

Southampton are currently rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table and it is revealed that the South Coast club are bracing themselves for an offer for the 28-year-old if they go down.

It is explained that even though the England international does not have a release clause, the Saints will not stand in his way if they are relegated.

Spurs Web Opinion

There will likely be a long queue for Ward-Prowse’s signature if Southampton go down.

While his set-piece ability is undoubtedly worth its weight in gold, I do not think that the 28-year-old would be a game-changing signing as he will not be much of an upgrade in terms of general play compared to our other midfield options.
