Report: PL rival now in pole position to sign Spurs-linked Merih Demiral

Corriere dello Sport have reported that Everton are now in pole position to sign Juventus central defender, Merih Demiral, this summer.

This news comes after Football London revealed that Tottenham had been tracking the defender for some time, but it would depend on the new head coach in North London.

Alasdair Gold said: “He’s definitely a player that Tottenham have had their eye on as a club. Much depends on who the new manager wants of course.”

That is something Everton and Spurs have in common, with both clubs currently having a vacant hot seat. Jose Mourinho was sacked in late April and Carlo Ancelotti recently chose to return to Real Madrid.

However, Spurs do look as though they will be hiring former Juventus Sporting Director, Fabio Paratici this summer, a man who will know Demiral from his time at the club. In fact, Paratici is known to admire the centre half.

Calciomercato recently reported that Juventus would want around £34m to part ways with the defender.

Tottenham have struggled at centre-back this season with Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez and Toby Alderweireld falling short of expectations.
