Report: PL rivals are making a ‘big push’ to beat Tottenham to centre-back

According to a report in The Sunday Mirror (24/3; page 67 via TBR Football), Newcastle are now stepping up efforts to beat Tottenham Hotspur to the signature of Bournemouth centre-back Lloyd Kelly.

With Kelly’s contract running out in June, his future has been the subject of much speculation over the last few months and that looks unlikely to change anytime soon, with the centre-back seemingly no closer to agreeing a new deal with the Cherries.

Last month, TEAMtalk claimed that the 25-year-old had made it clear to the Bournemouth hierarchy that he would not be signing a new deal unless the contract contained a release clause.

The report added that the development had alerted Spurs, Newcastle and West Ham, with all three clubs eyeing a summer move for the 25-year-old.

Newcastle and Tottenham both want Lloyd Kelly

Tottenham’s interest in the centre-back has now been backed up by The Mirror, who say that the Lilywhites, West Ham and Newcastle are joined in the race by a couple of Italian sides.

It is alleged that both AC Milan and Juventus are also plotting moves for Kelly, who is now allowed to sign a pre-contract agreement with non-English sides.

The outlet adds that the Magpies are keen on winning the race for the Englishman are are now ready to ‘make a big push’ for his signature.

Spurs Web Opinion

Newcastle would be favourites to land Kelly as the centre-back would be well aware that he is much more likely to get regular game time at St James’ Park than he is at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. I also cannot see Tosin Adarabioyo being too keen on making a move to Spurs for the same reason.
