Report: PL rivals have ‘resurrected talks’ to sign Brennan Johnson – Spurs have competition

Tottenham’s pursuit of Brennan Johnson may have just got a lot more complicated, with The Daily Mail now reporting that Brentford have resurrected talks to sign the versatile attacker.

It has been widely reported over the last few days that Johnson remains Tottenham’s top attacking target (Sky Sports) but a deal for the wide-forward looks anything but straightforward.

On Wednesday afternoon, The Independent suggested that the Lilywhites were still a long way off from agreeing on a deal for the Wales international while The Times subsequently claimed that the transfer could go ‘down to the wire’ as Spurs do not want to meet Forest’s £50m valuation.

Brentford reignite interest in Brennan Johnson

The Mail have now asserted that Brentford are also back in the race for Johnson’s signature, having reached out to Forest once again over a late deal for the player.

The report explains that the Bees appeared to pull out of the race for the youngster after their £43m offer had been rejected by Forest but they are now making one more attempt to lure the winger to West London.

However, the publication adds that Tottenham very much remain in the race for Johnson’s signature and are expected to make ‘a late offer’ for the Forest academy graduate.

Spurs Web Opinion

The one advantage that Tottenham have over Brentford is the fact that Johnson seems to prefer joining us.

However, I doubt Thomas Frank’s men would be bidding for the 22-year-old if he had shown no interest in moving to the Gtech Community Stadium.

I still have a feeling that Spurs and Forest will strike a part-exchange deal, with Sanchez potentially heading to the City Ground as a part of the deal.
