Report: PL rivals will allow rumoured Spurs target to leave in January

According to a report in The Athletic, Chelsea will let rumoured Tottenham target Olivier Giroud leave the club in January.

Giroud was one of the strikers Spurs were reportedly keen on back in January of this year as they were searching for a back up to Harry Kane after the England captain suffered a hamstring injury (Daily Mail).

The French international revealed in the summer that Tottenham’s interest was genuine and he was open to a move to the North Londoners.

Giroud did get some minutes under his belt in the second half of last season but has struggled to get into Frank Lampard’s side at the start of this campaign.

He hinted last week in an interview with Telefoot (as relayed by Goal.com) that he may be looking to leave Stamford Bridge in January.

The Athletic now reveal that Chelsea are sympathetic to Giroud’s situation, particularly with the Euros coming up next summer.

The report claims that there is a lot of respect for the 34-year-old and the service he has given to the club, therefore the Blues could cede to the striker’s demands and allow him to leave when the transfer window reopens.
