Report: Spurs lose out on landing highly-rated midfielder to Leicester City

Tottenham Hotspur appear to have lost out to Leicester City in the race to sign American wonderkid Zach Booth after the teenager confirmed on social media that he has signed with the Foxes.

Booth, who came through Real Salt Lake’s academy, is a key part of the United States Under-17s.

The midfielder, along with his older brother, Taylor Booth, who is part of Bayern Munich’s youth set-up were both reportedly on Tottenham’s radar, with Zach even undergoing a trial with the North Londoners last year (Daily Mail).

However, it now appears that Brendan Rodgers side have won the race for the 16-year-old’s signature, with ESPN reporting that the Foxes have finally concluded negotiations for the defender which they began back in February.

Booth was reportedly impressed with what he saw at the East Midlands club when they first expressed their interest.

He told ESPN: “It was just a really good first impression with the club and the players and the coaching staff. I just really enjoyed it from the start.”

The youngster took to Instagram to admit his delight at putting pen to paper with the Foxes.

Spurs Web Opinion

While The Daily Mail report back in May did claim that we were after both Booth brothers, it did hint that Taylor was our main target rather than Zach. The Bayern Munich man seems to be the more highly rated of the two based on reports and it will be interesting to see if we follow up on our interest with an offer.
