Report: PL side make move for new keeper amidst Spurs links to number one

Amidst speculation linking Nick Pope with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, Burnley are set to make a move for Werder Bremen goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka, according to a report from Bild.

There has been plenty of speculation regarding Hugo Lloris’ future, with the goalkeeper having just over 12 months left on his contract.

However, some sources have claimed that the Frenchman could be set to stay at Spurs and pen a new contract after holding positive conversations about his future with club chairman Daniel Levy.

If the Tottenham captain does leave, Pope is rumoured to be one of the options the North Londoners are looking at as a potential replacement.

Previous reports have indicated that Burnley are ready to sell the England international for around £45m this summer.

It now looks as though the Clarets could be planning for a future without Pope, with Bild reporting that the club are ‘putting feelers’ out for Pavlenka.

It is asserted that Werder Bremen are expecting a €3m (£2.5m) offer from Burnley for their number one in the next few days.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am not convinced that an approach by Burnley for Pavlenka is evidence that the Clarets are ready to sell Pope. Sean Dyche has demonstrated in the past that he likes having three quality goalkeepers in his squad and so, it would not surprise me if they held on to Pope despite signing the Czech international.
