Report: PL to hold talks with Super League clubs about potential multi-million fines

Sky Sports have reported that the Premier League are set to hold showdown talks with the six clubs that signed up to join the European Super League earlier this season.

It is said that the talks will revolve around possible punishments for the clubs, with multi-million-pound fines being mentioned.

Sky Sports claim that a source from one club told them that the Premier League was looking at a range of penalty options. These are said to include anything from a one-off fine to a fine and the loss of some of next season’s broadcasting revenue.

The report adds that an initial proposal from the Premier League made back in April include a potential £15m fine plus a suspended points deduction for all six clubs.

However, the Super League teams are apparently set to strongly oppose any points deduction if it is proposed as a part of the final settlement.

The talks are said to be ongoing and there could be changes before the final agreement.
